New pastor to join Our Savior Church

Greta and the Rev. Dave Backus
Pastor Dave Backus will be installed on Sunday, July 8 at 4:30 p.m. as the new pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 431 Waverly St., Springville.He was born in Graceville, Minn. and grew up in Hemlock, Mich., where his father served as pastor.
In 2005, he graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. and continued his schooling for the pastoral ministry at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis.
Before graduating in 2010, Backus spent a year as vicar at a church in Las Vegas and then received an emergency call to serve as dorm supervisor and teacher at California Lutheran High School in Wildomar, Cal.
After graduating from the seminary in 2010, Backus was ordained into the pastoral ministry of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and served for two years as a tutor at the WELS worker training high school in Watertown, Wis.
He was assigned to Our Savior Lutheran Church on May 24.
In December 2011, he married Greta Westphal.
The new Mrs. Backus was born in Wisconsin, graduated from Martin Luther College in 2005 and was assigned to serve at Luther Preparatory School in Wisconsin as a tutor for two years.
She taught second grade in a Lutheran school in Doral, Fla. and returned to LPS in 2010 as a professor of English.
The couple will move into the Our Savior parsonage in early July.
