SPRINGVILLE –– New York Assembly candidate Dan Humiston has announced that he is still continuing his election campaign after being injured in a cycling accident on May 26.
A small business owner, Humiston had announced last May that he was running for a seat in the Assembly, representing the 147th District. While the candidate was training for a triathlon, his bike’s back tire blew and Humiston was thrown from his bike into a ravine. He suffered a shattered pelvis and broken bones in both hips, his femur and in three vertebrae.
Humiston was taken by Mercy Flight to the Erie County Medical Center, where he underwent three emergency surgeries to repair his injuries.
Although he is in a wheelchair, Humiston has been cleared by his doctors to resume his campaign. “I’m not going to let being in a wheelchair stop me from fighting for lower taxes, less government and traditional family values,” Humiston said. “That’s what it will take to get us back on our feet again.”
