Robert Kuhl honored by veterans in Washington, D.C.

Robert Kuhl of East Concord was among 27 World War II veterans honored by Honor Flight Buffalo. He went to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial and Lincoln Memorial on May 5.

Kuhl was inducted into the United States Army on April 16, 1942 and received an honorable discharge on Nov. 26, 1945. He received the rank of technician fifth grade. For the greater part of his service, he was stationed at the Aleutian Islands. While there, he received the Asiatic-pacific Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He worked for Union Concrete Company for 28 years as a project foreman and stays active by gardening and splitting firewood. He resides with his son Jerry and dog Patches on Vaughn Street.

Kuhl was selected by Honor Flight Buffalo’s selection committee upon receipt of his application describing his World War II service. He was accompanied on the honor flight trip by Lawrence Zielinski of Springville.
