The world of baseball was no exception when it came to feeling the impact of the Swine Flu outbreak as 16 Mexican League Triple-A games that were scheduled for this weekend were postponed based on an April 30th recommendation by the Mexican Government.
Prior to this announcement games had been played in empty ballparks, as per a government suggestion on April 28.
The league released a statement saying it would respect the ruling and suspend activity until sometime this week. The league hopes to resume play on Wednesday May 6 with a slate of eight double headers. Games lost May 1-3 will not be made up.

Talk about wild, Jeff Locke, a left-handed pitcher on the Class-A Carolina League Myrtle Beach Pelicans worked back-to-back no hit bids in his last two starts (April 25 and May 1), with both ending in the seventh inning.
“It’s pretty crazy, huh? Locke said with a laugh after the Pelicans 2-0 win on May 1. “No one goes out there and tries to do that.”
What made this even more unique is both times Locke faced the Salem Red Sox the Carolina League affiliate of Locke’s beloved Boston Red Sox.

Mets pitcher Oliver Perez may start getting his mail directed to Buffalo before the month of May is over.
No Mets starter has struggled more this season than Perez who is 1-2 with a ghastly 9.97 ERA. He has struck out 20 batters but given up 21 walks.
Perez lasted just 2-1/3 innings in his start Saturday against the Phillies, a game the Mets lost 6-5.
Reports out of New York say that Perez is bothered by a balky knee and that could lead to a stint on the DL with a rehab in Buffalo.
More than likely Perez should avoid the DL and be able to try and work through his troubles. Which raises the question of where and how can he work through his issues?
Talk seems split between moving Perez to the bullpen or sending him to the minors to regain his touch. The smart move would be to send Perez to Buffalo where he can get his regular spot in the rotation. Moving Perez to the bullpen solves nothing as his mind set and job description will change. Mentally, Perez is teetering at a crucial point and the Mets must make the right choice.
“His confidence is shot.” Mets skipper Jerry Manual told the media.
Manual, who sticks by his word, said Perez would get one more start with the Mets before a decision is made on the next step.
