Just when the Buffalo Bisons seemed to have their on-field opponents figured out Mother Nature tossed them a curve they could not hit.
Wednesday’s Bisons-Syracuse Chiefs game was called off due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday August 20.
Thursday’s scheduled game remains a traditional nine-inning game with a 1:05 p.m. start.
Both teams will push Wednesday’s scheduled starters back one day. Syracuse RHP Garrett Mock (1-1, 5.73 ERA) will oppose Bison lefty Jonathon Niese (1-6, 6.31 ERA) who will be going for his second consecutive win this season.
The postponement will push back the Triple-A debut of Tobie Stoner who was slated to get the start for Buffalo Thursday.
Stoner was 2-2, with a 2.86 ERA in seven starts with Double-A Binghamton this season.
Fans holding tickets to tonight’s game can exchanged them for comparable tickets to future Bisons games.
Having won five of their last seven games including a back-to-back series wins over Durham and Syracuse the Herd finally appeared to be on a roll. The mission now is to not let Wednesday’s PPD get them off track.
“You’ve got to look at it almost like having an off day we don’t have many off day’s during the season,” said manager Ken Oberkfell. “It gives our bullpen a break.”

Bad weather also put the First Responders Night ceremonies on hold until further notice.
Honoring all area First Responders, Wednesday’s pre-game event was going to show special recognition to the Clarence Center Volunteer Firefighters and a special moment of silence for the victims of Continental Flight 3407.

Argenis Reyes (groin contusion) returned from the DL on Monday. He went 2 for 4 in the nightcap of the Herd’s doubleheader with Syracuse.
On the DL for 17 days, Reyes was one of the Bisons hottest hitters, fashioning a 10-game hitting streak. He was also playing very well at shortstop. But his true value was at the top of the batting order.
“He’s a great lead off guy,” said Oberkfell. “He works counts, he takes pitches. He makes things happen. It was tough without him but it’s nice having him back.”
Held out of Wednesday’s starting lineup so he could get some rest Reyes should get the start at second base on Thursday.

Ken Oberkfell was added to the International League coaching staff for the 2009 Triple-A All-Star game that will be played on July 15.
Speaking of the B-Mets. Nick Evans, who was a 7 for 75 wash out with the Bisons earlier this season is batting .260 with two home runs and seven RBI in 23 games with Bingo.
