Were Demi Lovato's problems with cuts and eating disorders inevitable? Were Demi Lovato and her problems with cutting herself and eating disorders also preventable?
We may never know all the circumstances that have led the talented and young Demi Lovato to quit a world tour and check into a medical center/rehab. But we do know somethings that can give us a peek into her problems.
It has been rumored that she has been suffering from a eating disorder for quite awhile. We also have heard that Lovato has been accused of cutting herself. Lastly, from what has been reported, it looks like the last straw that sent her into rehab was a fight between her and another girl on tour with her and the Jonas Brothers.
Let's take a look at all of these.
First, an eating disorder can be hard for people to see and know about. It is something that people are good at hiding and being on tour with all the travel and lack of sleep it is normal that an artist would lose weight or appear tired and drained. Only possibly family members and close friends would have known about it but most likely this was a secret that Lovato kept closely hidden. This was neither inevitable or sadly preventable. Being on tour in that kind of environment would have made it almost impossible for anyone to know that she wasn't eating or throwing her food back up.
Second, Cutting. This action allegedly taken by Demi Lovato is something that family and close friends should have known about. People who cut usually do it in obvious visible places so that other people can see them. They are usually a cry for help. This kind of action is not inevitable and should have been preventable. Surely someone knew about this long before now and it appears that nothing significant was done about it.
Thirdly, a fight with another tour member is something that is going to happen from time to time on tour. Unfortunately this seemed to be the last straw that sent Lovato over the edge. Things like this are hard to prevent on such a long tour and most of the time are inevitable. But, this fight would not have had the apparent effect it did if not for the other underlying issues.
Lastly, It appears that Demi Lovato's trip to rehab was both inevitable and preventable. It was inevitable in the sense that based on all the pressure a person in her position has and all the underlying problems she had that eventually she was going to crack. It was preventable in the sense that if someone would have noticed the warning sings early enough it all could have been avoided.
