It was the day. It was the day that Michael Vick was supposed to make his remarkable return to the National Football League after a two-year layoff.
While I was waiting to see Vick during the Philadelphia Eagles/Kansas City Chiefs game, I couldn’t help wonder what Vick would look like now that the regular season was here.
I’m not going to lie, I was eager to see the man do his thing like in Atlanta. I was wondering if the Eagles were going to use them in their version of the Wildcat or if they were going to let him air out of the football.
But, a funny thing happened while I was watching the game from the end zone. I didn’t notice Vick, but instead another young quarterback from Philadelphia named Kevin Kolb.
I knew Kolb was a good quarterback, because I used to watch him air the ball out while playing his ball at the University of Houston. In fact, Kolb helped put Houston on the map while he was there.
When the Eagles took him a few years ago in the NFL Draft many wondered if that spelled the end for Donavan McNabb. But, McNabb had resurgence and Kolb was left sitting on the bench.
When McNabb went down in the opener against Carolina this year that gave an opportunity to Kolb to show his stuff.
He struggled in his first NFL start against New Orleans at home. Not that he didn’t throw for a lot of yards, but just the fact that he turned the ball over to much.
So, it was interesting to see him in this game against the Chiefs. He had to be feeling the pressure since the Eagles had signed Jeff Garcia and activated Vick.
But, if the pressure was there you would have never known as Kolb looked like a seasoned veteran carving up the Chiefs’ defense all afternoon.
Kolb threw for 327 yards and two scores and he became the first to throw for 300 in his first two starts.
But, while Kolb did all the works, Vick got all the attention.
Vick played three plays running the ball for seven yards and throwing two incomplete passes.
It was a small sampling for Vick and maybe all the hype surrounding Vick’s return helped calm Kolb down.
Don’t forget though it’s not like Kolb couldn’t play the position. He was a great quarterback at Houston and he wanted to prove to everyone that he could play at this level.
“We recognized that Donovan and Westbrook were out," Kolb said. "It was an opportunity for us to prove why they drafted us. We focused on dominating them."
With Kolb’s steady play over the last two weeks the Eagles can now make sure McNabb is completely healthy before letting get back in game action. The Eagles have a bye week next week.
Trouble brewing in Buffalo: Living in Buffalo I see it first hand. The Bills have a tendency to get your hopes up week after week. After playing well the first two weeks of the season – a win and a loss – it was going to be interesting to see how they stacked up against Drew Brees and the high-powered New Orleans offense.
While score will read 27-7 in favor of the Saints, the score was only 10-7 heading late into the fourth quarter. But, see, that’s were the problem comes in. The Bills’ defense has done more than enough the past three games to have this team 3-0. It’s the offense that is bad.
And, I mean bad.
For three games they haven’t been able to get T.O. involved. How do you not get one of the best receivers in the game involved in the offense?
It’s like having L.T. in his prime with San Diego and saying nah I don’t feel like giving him the ball this week.
While T.O. has played the good little soldier the first couple of weeks you know it’s bothering him – and it should. Trent Edwards needs to stop dumping the ball off to his backs and start getting that ball down field. Throwing the ball down to field to the receivers is not a bad thing. In fact I heard that others teams do it.
Considering this is a make or break season for Dick Jauron – you would think he would pull out all the stops on offense.
Sad thing is – maybe he is.
That Voodoo that you do: Speaking of those New Orleans Saints, what a game plan they put in against the Bills. For the first couple of weeks, the Saints have been throwing the ball all over the field.
But, on Sunday that ran the ball right down the Bills throat. It just goes to show how powerful the offense is and if their defense can continue to play like they did against Buffalo then watch out.
We will have more on Drew Brees and the Saints later in the week on a special edition of My View from the End Zone.

Who cares about Vick? I'm glad that Kolb upstaged him. Vick is a dirt bag and doesn't deserve to be in the NFL and it makes me sick that he is on my team. I hope he breaks a leg like Theismann and it ends his career.

Why all the hate? So Vick made a mistake. I don;t see what the big deal is. He killed dogs, not humans.

Why all the hate you ask? Because Vick is a degenerate dirtbag who should be shot and dragged through the streets by dogs
