One of the questions coming into the Notre Dame/USC game have the Irish closed the gap?
While the question won’t be answered after this game, the Irish did show they can compete with USC. The only problem is they haven’t been able to find away to beat them.
Now the question becomes is Charlie Weis the right man for the job?
Unless Notre Dame goes out and gets an Urban Meyer, Weis is the right man for the job. Tell me who else is a good coach that will want to take the Notre Dame job.
Unless his name is Lou Holtz, I believe there is no one out there. Notre Dame should win the rest of their games on the schedule. So, that means they will be 10-2. While that might not get them in a BCS bowl game, that still will be a good season.
But, fans and alumni are a fickle bunch at Notre Dame. As much as I appreciate the Irish fateful, Notre Dame hasn’t one anything since 1988.
Notre Dame is kind of like the New York Yankees. What I mean about that is either you like them or hate them. But, more importantly television wants them to be good. Because, a good Notre Dame equals ratings.
Just like the Yankees making the playoffs is a good thing for baseball.
My friend who drops his comments on the column will call me a Notre Dame homer. I admit, I do like the Irish. Growing up in the area that I did you kind of don’t have a choice.
But, the funny thing is I actually like the United States Military Academy, or for my friend who drops the comments that would be Army.
I am just stating that a good Norte Dame team is good for college football. And if Notre Dame has a quarterback like Jimmy Clausen fighting for a shot at a Heisman Trophy that to is good for college football.
All the Notre Dame haters out there know that the Irish closed the gap on USC and that scares them, because now the Irish will be all over the news and newspapers for the next couple of days.
Gator bait: Tim Tebow willed his team to victory over a stuburn Arkansas bunch. For everybody that watch the game is was a tough defensive battle. Arkansas had a chance to win the game, or take the lead, but their field goal kicker couldn’t get done.
That’s all Tebow needed as he willed his team down the field for the win. He did what great players do, he lead his to victory.
Colt 45: Colt McCoy didn’t have a great game, but he didn’t need to as his defense was the reason why the Longhorns took down Oklahoma. What was going to be a good season for the Sooners, has now turned into a rebuilding year of sorts as Sam Bradford re-injured his right shoulder.
More than likely, Bradford will be done for the season. Why ruin your NFL chances by doing any further damage.
Leap Frog: The TCU Horned Frogs are just quietly going about their business and their business right now is getting into the BCS discussion. And after their dismantling of Colorado State on Saturday, I think they are a top 5 team in the country.
They still have BYU and Utah, but if they run the table why not put them in the title game.

Just to let you know that Notre Dame has 19 players who either start or play in the first quarter that will be gone, so Notre Dame, the team will be average at best, while programs such as USC, will continue to be a top 5 team.

Closed the gap on USC? Are you out of your mind!?! What are you smoking cause I want some. ND does not have the recruiting power that USC does. They will never close the gap!

ND is on the rise I agree. Will they close the gap on USC any time soon? Probably not but they are regaining the kind of program they had about 20 years ago. It's been forever but I think ND fans can be optimistic once again.
