So, if you are the Buffalo Bills what do you do now?
Ryan Fitzpatrick came in last week and they won. He starts this week and they win.
Don’t get me wrong, the defense has played great the last two weeks. They were the reason why the Bills beat Carolina. But, Fitzpatrick managed the game. He didn’t throw an interception today and he even threw the ball down field to Lee Evans for the big 50-yard completion.
While the Bills won, I am still not impressed with the play calling. Take the fourth quarter when Fitzpatrick found Evans down the sideline for the big completion.
What did the Bills do next?
What they always do, they ran the ball and played for a field goal. That set of plays right there shows why they need a coaching change. Instead of putting the game out of reach, they let Carolina back into it with a lousy field goal.
Good teams and good coaches know how to finish games. The Bills coaching staff is still trying to figure it out. As for Fitzpatrick, you play the guy until they lose. Don’t mess with the hot hand.
He was drafted out of Harvard for a reason. I am not saying he is the Bills future quarterback, but he is the present.
Saints keep marching: The talk with the New Orleans Saints this week was how would they handle being behind in a game?
I think they answered that question pretty well. Down 24-3 to the Miami Dolphins, Drew Brees and the Saints didn’t panic – and they didn’t veer from their game plan.
It would have been easy to just tell Brees to throw the ball 60 times to get back into the ball game. But, the Saints didn’t do that. Instead, they ran the ball and wore down the Dolphins' defense. Then when Miami was playing to stop the run, Brees went up top to his favorite targets.
That formula, my friends, have the Saints undefeated heading into a huge game against the Atlanta Falcons.
With the division only being a two team race, a win on Monday night next week would go a long way toward a division title.
Something to prove: Do you think Cedric Benson had something to prove against his former team?
Yeah, so do I. Benson ran wild on the Chicago Bears and Carson Palmer looked like the Carson Palmer of a few years back as the Cincinnati Bengals steamrolled the Bears, 45-10.
Benson ran for a career-high 189 yards on 37 carries to pace the attack. And the Bengals improved to 5-2.
Right now, the Bengals have it all working as their defense is stopping people, wow can’t believe I just made that statement. And the offense is coming around and getting better week after week.
With the way they are playing now, Cincinnati could be one of those danger teams come playoff time.
Back down to earth: After a hot start, the San Francisco 49ers have come back to earth – at least a little bit. And in the process they may have a quarterback controversy brewing.
Shaun Hill was pulled after a dismal first half and enter Alex Smith. All Smith did was lead the 49ers to three scores in the second half as the 49ers tried to claw their way back into the game.
Smith looked good as he hooked up with Vernon Davis three times. The comeback came to an end when he was picked off with under a minute to go in the contest.
Why bother: In the why bother department is the Cleveland Browns. Hey Cleveland why bother keep putting in Anderson game after game. You all ready know the kid can’t play quarterback. Why don’t you start Brady Quinn for the rest of the year – so you can see if he is the quarterback of the future.
Now we all know the head coach doesn’t like Quinn, but what does he know. It’s not like he was a great coach with the New York Jets.
