After a lack luster and disapointing effort against the Flyers last night the Buffalo Sabres are in Boston tonight to take on the Bruins at TD Banknorth Garden at 7pm.
There is a good chance that rookie goalie Jhonas Enroth could be in net tonight. The Sabres are playing their third game in four nights and Ryan Miller looked bad in goal last night giving up two soft goals. This is a good time to rest Miller and see what the kid can do. Enroth couldn't possibly be any worse than Patrick Lalime. Lalime has been just horrible since coming to Buffalo and his play last year might have cost Buffalo a playoff spot. The Sabres need to find out what they have in Enroth so they can make a decision about possibly trading for a better backup goaile at some point this season. With a condensed schedule and the Olympic games this year, it is imperative that the Sabres give Miller adequate rest while still being able to compete. With Lalime as the backup the odds of the Sabres winning enough games to reach the playoffs is poor. In this league you need a backup capable of getting you points. If the Sabres had a decent backup the last two years they most likey would have made the postseason both times. If Enroth can prove he is a capable backup the Sabres could afford to rest Miller on occassion while still having a chance to pick up much needed points as they try to make the playoffs after a two year absence. If Enroth is not up to the challenge, look for the Sabres to make a move for a backup goalie even before the trade deadline.
The Bruins have had a slow start to the season. The reason is their offense has failed to produce as it did last year. Free agent loses, trades, and the fact that certain players have not played up to their potential so far are the reason for the Bruins troubles offensively. Defense and goaltending are still strong points for the Bruins and should present a good challange for the Sabres tonight. Tim Thomas's record maybe below .500 but his save percentage and goals against average are respectable. His win loss record is a direct result of his teams lack of scoring and not a result of his poor play.
Sabres - Bruins games are usually entertaining so look for a good game that features good defense and some hard hitting.
