When Residents Are In Need Of The Fire Company, They Should Have A Save Feeling When The Fire Department Shows Up And Not Wonder If They Will Be Robbed. I Feel It Is The Fire Commissioners Job To Ensure The Members Have A Clean Record, Especially If They Are In A Position To Come In Contact With Residents. Years Ago The Fire Chiefs Used To Have To Take Special Classes To Become Chief But The District Stopped That. Are There Any Standards Within The Fire Companies Other Than Being Able To Get Drunk? This Is To The People Of The Village Of Sloan. Do You Know What Goes On At The Village Teen Center When Your Children Are There? If You Dont Or If You Think You Do, Listen Up. Picking Up My Child And Their Friend There One Day, I Walked Up The Stairs To The Teen Center And Before I Even Went In I Could Here A Woman Swearing Like A Truckdriver. I Could Not Beleive My Ears At The Language This Woman Was Using In Front Of Mine And Other Children Who Were In There. I Went In And Found Out It Was The Only Adult There-the Teen Center Supervisor!!!! She Stopped Immediatlety When I Walked In And Hung Up The Phone And Was Acting Like Nothing Happened. What Kind Of Adult Uses This Kind Of Language Around Other Peoples Children? Against My Better Judgement,because My Child Likes To Meet Friends There, I Dropped My Child Off There Again On Monday February 1st While I Shopped At The Local Tops. The Same Woman Was Working. I Called There Several Times At About 7:10pm To Ask My Child A Question. It Rang Off The Hook Unanswered Each Time. When Someone From The Senior Center Downstairs Finally Answered, She Said She Would Go Upstairs And Look For My Child. When I Called Back, I Found Out That The Teen Center Was Closed And No Reason Was Given. My Young Child And All Of The Others Were Thrown Out Onto The Streets, At Night, In The Middle Of Winter! No Parents Were Called. I Was ,to Say The Least, Appalled, Angry And Extremely Upset At The Whereabouts Of My Child! When I Told My Neighbor About This, She Said That She Wont Even Let Her Kids Go There Anymore Because That Woman Is Crazy (her Word) And That She Had Used Awful Language With Her Before. She Had Reported Her To The Mayor And The Mayor Did Nothing! Now, After Speaking With Other Mothers About Her, I Understand This Woman Has Had,several Complaints About Her Behavior,there Are Accident Reports While She Was On Duty And Has Even Scared Children Into Writing 'love' Letters About How Much They Like Her... What???? Now I Understand That Because She Is Trustee Niwinskis Wife, She Has Mayoral Immunity! I Beleive That This Woman Is Unfit To Be In Charge Of Any Children And Wonder Why She Is. My Car Went Into The Ditch On December 28 When I Was On My Way To The Buffalo Airport And A Sheriff From I'm Not Sure What Town Zoomed By Me Without Even Stopping To See If I Was Ok. But Orchard Park Police Officer Robert Cirbus Then Came By And Stopped To Help Me. He Let Me Sit In His Car To Keep Warm And Because It Was So Cold Outside He Went Back To My Car To Steer It Out Of The Ditch When The Tow Truck Came. He Was Very Kind And Helped Me When I Was Nervous And Alone And I Wanted To Say Thank You!! Kudos To The People Of Orchard Park For Having Such Kind Law Enforcement Officers!

The South Line Fire Department Wants To Thank The Residents On Strasmer Who Provided The Firefighters With The Hot Coffee On Saturday Evening, January, 29th When Their Neighbor's House Had Caught Fire. With Well Below Freezing Temperatures And Multiple Fire Companies Working To Save Their Neighbor's House The Residents Provided The Firefighters With The Hot Beverage To Help Warm The Fire Fighters Due To The Frigid Weather Conditions. South Line Wants To Also Thank All The Other Fire Companies, Especially Bellevue, Who Came Out On Such A Frigid Evening, To Assist Us And Work With Us As A Team For A Mutual Cause, To Try And Save The Home Of One Of Our Residents. It Is Great To Know That Our Volunteer Companies Are There, Working As Team Players, Ready To Serve Our Residents, No Matter What Is Happening Outside. People Actually Do Walk Down The Street In The Winter. People With And Without Dogs. Also Alot Of Children Walk Down The Street To Get To And From Their Bus Stops. When Ignorant People Choose Not To Shovel Their Sidewalks It Forces People (walking And Not Walking Their Dogs) And Children To Walk In The Street Which Is Very Dangerous. It Only Takes A Little Bit To Shovel The Sidewalk. If You Are Elderly Or Unable To Do Your Own Sidewalk I'm Sure A Neighbor With A Snowblower Wouldn't Mind Making A Pass At Your House, Just Ask. I Have A Great Way For The Town Of Cheektowaga To Make Money Instead Of Raising Taxes. Start Having The Police Give Tickets To All Those Lousy Drivers Out There. William Street Alone From Union To The Thruway Entrance, You Got Speeders, And Red Light Runners. Just For One Day Have A Patrol Car Sit In The Williamstowne Apartment Driveway By The Signal And They Will Make Tons Of Money. So Many Cars Pass That Red Light Its Unbelievable Almost Causing A Lot Of Accidents. How Many Times Have You Seen Drivers On Cell Phones, Not Signaling Turns, Making A Left In The Right Hand Lane, Etc. I Live In Town On A County Road, I Always Shovel My Sidewalk, But The County Plows Go Down The Road Five Or Ten Times A Day When Snowing, Then Come Back Each Day Afterwards (seems Like Every Day) And Do Whats Called A Push Back., Now The Road Is Four Lanes, With A Center Strip, And The Bike/snow Lane. They Never Use The Snow Lane For Snow, Its Always Curb To Curb. So That Means Three Lanes Of Highway On My Sidewalk! So Please Understand, That Its Not Possible To Always Have A Clear Sidewalk.

Driving On The 33 Expressway The Other Evening In The Dark And Wet. I Noticed That Every Other Light On The Expressway Was Out Until I Got The The Buffalo Border, Where All The Lights Were On. Is There Some Reason For This? I Have Also Noticed That Walden Avenue, From Union To The Thruway Ramps And The Intersection Is Also Lacking Light, Just Because There Are Businesses On The Road Doesn't Mean We Shouldn't Have Lights. I See People Walking On Walden In The Dark And You Can Not See Them Until You Are Almost On Top Of Them, And Don't Forget They Are Walking In The Street Because The Sidewalk Is Not Cleared. I Completely Agree With Jeff From Cheektowaga.i Was Familiar With This Incident From A Few Years Ago, Because It Was On The News And In The Paper. To Quote From The Buffalo News, "u-crest Fire Company Chief David J. Passalugo Forged The Signatures Of Doctors, Nurses And Paramedics To Satisfy Prerequirements For An "intermediate Emergency Medical Technician Program" In Which He Was Enrolled." He Is Now Back In The Fire Hall And Is An Assistant Chief Along With Another Individual Who Was Also Charged In This Incident. Why Can They Let This Individual Who Is Evidently Too Lazy As Quoted In The Paper To Do The Required Work, But Yet Is Allowed To Be An Assistant Chief? I Think We, The Taxpayers Have A Right To Know Why Since We Are Asked For Donations On A Yearly Basis. Is He Qualified Now For His Position? Probably Not! I Think It's More Of A Power Trip For Some Of These Guys To See How High Of A Position They Can Get. Maybe We, The Public Ought To Be Able To See The Qualifications For Each Member From The Chief, Himself On Down Through The Line. If We're Not Able To, Evidently Someone Is Hiding Something. Is It The Chief Or The Board Of Fire Commissioners? Remember This, Taxpayer, When They Come Around In A Few Months Asking For A Donation. I Have Warned My Carrier To Not Cut Accross My Lawn, And Even Have Stopped His Supervisor While He Was "timinig" Him To Cut On My Lawn. Why Do People Shovel Snow From Their Sidewalks And Driveways Into The Road? The Snow Plow Comes By And Deposits The Snow Right Back Into Their Driveway. Then They Have To Go Out Again, And They Still Shovel The Snow Back Into The Road. I Stopped My Car Last Week To Ask A Man Why He Was Shoveling Snow Into The Road And He Told Me That He Hoped It Would Melt. Not Only Is This Incredibly Stupid, It Creates A Driving Hazard. This Is In Response To Marge, South Buffalo Alive Regarding The Vandalism To Santa At Mcclellan Circle. I Did Not Make The Temporary Repair To Santa To Receive Thanks But It As A South Buffalo Resident And A Grandfather. My Grandchildren Love Walking Over To The Circle To See The Buffalo. When Santa Was Placed There We Thought This Would Make A Nice Picture. When Arriving To Take Some Pictures My Oldest Grandson (3 Years Old) Asked What Happen. I Explained To Him That Some "bad Kids" Broke It. I Took A Couple Of Pictures While He Held Santa Up. I Asked Him If He Wanted To Help Me Fix It. When We The Day Arrived That We Could Go Back, He Was Excited To Help Papa Fix Santa. While He Helped We Talked About The "bad Kids" And About How You Should Not Touch Things That Don't Belong To You. He Added That You Shouldn't Break Them Either. Today's Society Would Not Be In The Shape It Is If Parents (and Yes Grandparents) Teach Our Youth Manners, Respect And Responsibility.

I Would Like To Blow Off Steam About A Doctor That Has Her Office In A Small Plaza On Colvin Blvd. In The Town Of Tonawanda. This Doctor Has Been Asked Repeatedly To Park Her Car, Along With Her Employees, On The Far Side Of The Parking Lot And Leave The Parking Spots Closest To The Building For The Patrons Of The Plaza. Unfortunately, She Seems To Think She Has Special Privileges And Parks Directly In Front Of The Doors Of Not Only Her Own Office But The Other Businesses In The Plaza. She Even Ignores The Letters Sent Out By The Landlord. She Often Leaves Her Car In The Same Spot For Hours And Even Overnight. There Are Many Elderly And Handicapped People That Frequent The Plaza And This Causes Them To Have To Park On The Far Side Of The Lot. Many Have Canes And Walkers And Struggle Terribly, Especially In The Snowy Weather. Many Are Her Own Patients. Most Of The Employees Of The Plaza Abide By The Rules Knowing That If Patrons Don't Have Easy Access To A Place They Will Go Elsewhere. There Is No Reason For Her To Park So Close Except That She Has To Wear Open Toe High Heals And Doesn't Want To Get Her Tootsies Wet. I'm Sure She Could Afford Some Bots, But If Not The Plaza Would Gladly Take Up A Collection To Buy Her Some. I Just Don't See How She Can Call Herself A Caregiver When She Obviously Couldn't Care Less About The Safety And Well Being Of Others.

Why Is It That Jobs That Are Posted Within The Town Are Not Filled And Held For Individuals That Cannot Pass The Proper Test That Are Required For A Position When You Have People With Experience And License Required For The Job And Already Employed By The Town.this Is Patronage Going A Little Bit To Far. All This Talk Back And Fourth About The Volunteer Fire Service. Here's The Bottom Line. And Keep Im Mind I Am A Paid Firefighter But I Got My Start In The Volunteer Service In Cheektowaga. The Volunteer Fire Service Is A Thing Of The Past. There Is No Reason Cheektowaga Or Even Erie County For That Matter Shouldn't Have A Paid Fire Dept Or At Least A Paid On Call Dept. I Am Not Bashing The Volunteers. I Was One. There Are Many Brave And Highly Trained Men And Women In The Volunteer Service And That Is Why They Should Be Paid. A Paid Fire Dept Serves Its Community Better Hands Down. The Saying Goes "you Get What You Pay For". Well Since The Volunteers Don't Pay They Are Forced To Set A Lower Standard Than That Of The Paid Service. One Of The Reasons Seeing A Paid Dept In Erie County Would Be Slow Is That Dedicated Firefighters Keep Showing Up For Free. Down Size The Multi Million Dollar Fire Halls And All Equipment And Start Paying These Brave Firefighters For What They Do. Hold Them To A Higher Standard Like We Do Our Police. Create Jobs And Better Service For Our Community. Let Only The Most Dedicated Serve Us And Weed Out The Social Club Volunteer Mind Set. This Is Not Some Wild New Concept. Full Time, Combination And Paid On Call Depts Are Popping Up All Over The Country In Former All Volunteer Areas. I Used To Be With Glynn County, Ga Fire. A County In A Very Poor State Financially In Many Parts But With A Paid Dept. Its Time To Look At What Better Serves The People And Saves Lives Even If It Costs A Little More And Get A Paid Dept. The Trully Dedicated Volunteers Would Line Up For These Jobs And The Community Would Be Safer. Please Lobby For Change In The Fire Service.

I Just Wanted To Say To Everyone Who Is Saying All The Volunteer Fireman That I Have Grown Up Most Of My Life With My Father Being A Volunteer Fireman. The Men And Some Women Who Volunteer At His Hall Are Amazing People And I Consider Them Like Family. They All Take Time Out Of Their Day To Help Out The Community. I Think That They Are Better Than The Paid Fireman Because They Choose To Do It Out Of The Kindness Of Their Own Heart Not Because They Are Getting Paid To Do It. The Risk Their Lives For Free Because They Want To Help. Yes I Get People Are Mad About The Money Some Of Them May Get But They Have To Put Years And Years In And May Not Get Most Of That Money Anyways. And To Leo, You May Say That Buffalo Fireman Are Better And Fight "real Fire" Which Is Such A Joke But You Must Not Realize That Amount Of Classes And Drills That The Fireman Have To Attend Each Year In Order To Be An Active Member. And All You This They Choose To Do Just So They Can Help Out Their Community, Not Because They Are Paid To Do It. If It Was Not For Volunteers In A Fire Hall Or In Hospitals Or Many Other Places, Things Wouldn't Be The Way They Are And Things Would Be More Expensive.

Over This Past Half Year I've Collected Close To 500 Receipts Demonstrating/highlighting (what Should* Be Considered) Misuse Of Such Benefits-- Purchases Of An Abundance Of Candy/candy Bars, Cookies, Red Bull/energy Drinks, Pop/carbonated Beverages, Ice Cream, Chips, Beef Jerky Snacks (all Covered By Food Stamps), Beer ! Cigarettes ! Tobacco Products ! (covered By The 'cash Advance/allowance' Option) When I Researched Facts On Snap, Two Stood Out: "snap Benefits Help Supplement An Individual’s Or A Family’s Income To Help Buy Nutritious* Food" And "snap Benefits Cannot Be Used To Buy: Alcoholic Beverages And Tobacco;" If Either Hold Any Truth, Then Both Need To Be Strongly Regulated And Enforced. I Am A Tax Payer. I Work Full Time + Hours (management In Food/retail Industry). I Live On A Tight Budget Without Excess Funds; I Can't Even Purchase A 3.49 Naked Juice Organic Protein Shake And 5.99 Package Of Jack Link's Prime Rib Seasoned Jerky, Without Feeling Guilty For It- Knowing That Money Could/should Have Went To Something Of Higher Quality And Quantity; Recipients Of Snap Benefits Do Not Necessarily Concern Over Such Privileges, Rather- They Take Their Benefits For Granted. It Is Very Discouraging To See Individuals/families Profiting Off Snap Benefits, Approaching The Counter With A Basket Full, Sometimes Cart Full Of Everything But Nutritious Food-- And As I Am Paid To Take Friendly Care Of Their Transaction, Apart Of My Hard-earned Cash Is Being Deducted And Generously/naively Being Handed To Them. I've Often Felt Inclined To Confiscate One Of Their Three-dollar Starbucks Coffee Drinks And Two-dollar King Size Mallo Cups, And Say- "you Know What, I'm Actually The One Paying For This, (no) Thank(s To) You," And Enjoying It Myself. I Have Infinite Receipts And If I Have To- I Will Go Door-to-door To Every Working Class Member And Collect Signatures, Because Everyone Who Works Hard For A Living Would No Doubt Be Likewise As Furious As I Am. So, My Argument Is This: Food Stamps Should Be Limited; Food Purchases That Most Obviously Lack In Nutrition Should Be Disallowed. And Those Recipients With Cash Advance/allowance- This Perk Should As Well Be Limited: Food Necessities* That May Exceed Their Food Stamp Benefit Allowance, And- Toiletry And Laundry Items/supplies; Not To Simply "use Their Cash, Like Cash." The Supplemental Nutrition* Assistance Program Needs To Be Reevaluated And Adjusted Accordingly; The Hard Working Class Is Sick Of Paying For Laziness, Obesity, Poor (eating) Habits And Addictions. I Am Open To Interview On This Crucial And Critical Issue, As A Tax Payer, As A Human Who Still Has Ethics, And As A Manager Who's Seen And Heard It All.
