Get pampered for a day at Salon in the Tower
Salon in the Tower was an idea that owners Roe Baran, Jennifer Ilunga and Laura Patterson had when the salon that Ilunga and Patterson originally had worked at, shut down. When looking for a location, they stumbled upon a unique building located in a plaza on Main Street in Clarence. Previously, this building had been a salon and Baran, Ilunga and Patterson thought it was perfect.
On Monday, they met the owner of the building, had the utilities turned on by Thursday and got to work right away. Just four days later, they opened their full functioning and redecorated salon.
“It was an extreme business makeover,” said Baran. “We were working around the clock and we did it. It was such a great accomplishment.”
The salon opened with just two employees and since then, the staff has grown to 14.
Just recently, an entire new section was added to the salon. Now, one side of the salon is just for hair. Stylists offer coloring, highlighting, styling, and extensions and are always willing to styling for wedding parties and proms.
The stylists at Salon in the Tower are like none other. They are put through extensive training beyond beauty school, which many other salons don’t require for their employees.
“We send them to Bumble, which is the product line that we use but they also have a hair university in New York City where they continuously get new education with different cutting, coloring and styling techniques,” said Baran. “They’re constantly on top of new styles and fashion.”
She added that her employees are the reason that this business has become such a success.
“These young women are amazing,” she said. “They’re talented and they continue to grow because of their commitment, their love for their clients, the passion for what they do and their desire to continue to get better and better at it.”
The expansion of the salon took place about two months ago and is now the location of a relaxing spa.
“We had an opportunity to take on extra space and we decided it was time to expand,” said Baran. “We are very busy on the hair side of this business so we needed to hire more service providers and we needed more room.”
On this side of the salon, clients can enjoy pedicures, manicures and body services, specializing in deep tissue massage and anti-aging skin care.
Baran said that since the addition to the salon has opened, business has been consistently increasing each day. She and her co-owners hope to continue to expand the business in the future. She said that they’d love to keep moving down the plaza in which they are located.
