Find the perfect Christmas tree at Erway's in Wilson
Sunday November 25, 2012 | By:Rikki Cason |
It is time once again to pick out that perfect Christmas tree. Helping to make that experience as easy as possible in Erway’s Christmas Tree Adventure.
When people arrive on the farm they can take a hayride wagon and travel into the tree farm, where they can browse through several acres of trees to find the perfect one. Erway’s features 13 types of trees on 80 acres of land. Trees up to 25-foot are available at the farm.
Owner David Erway, Jr. said Fraser Fir and Grand Fir is the most popular trees. Other trees at the farm include Canaan Fir, White Pine, Colorado Spruce, Concolor Fir, Blue Spruce, Balsam Fir and Scotch Pine.
Wagons leave every 20 minutes and feature several fun surprises for the children. Once a family has picked out the tree, employees will help them get the tree back to the wagon and then back to their car.
David Erway, Sr. said in every field there is two workers who will help people cut down a tree, if needed. Families can cut down their own tree and bring their own saw, or a saw will be provided.
“There is no reason to bring anything but the car,” said Erway, Sr. “Fathers can go and have a good time.”
All trees are shaken, bailed and placed in a corral, so the family can go and see the animals, lodge area and Santa.
“We do all the work for them,” said Erway, Jr. “We make it as painless as possible.”
There is no charge to enjoy the additional activities with a purchase of a tree. Families are also invited to stay as long as they want.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, cookies, hot cocoa and more can be purchased. Santa is in attendance in the lodge area on weekends. The lodge also features an unlimited “educational experience” for children and adults.
Erway’s also features a number of animals, including a Zebra named Marty, elk, white tail deer and goats.
“People like the atmosphere,” said Erway, Jr. “They like all the extra things we have to offer and the variety of trees.”
He said the entire Erway’s experience is focused on children and making them have the best time they possibly can.
Those visiting the farm during the week can also take a wagon ride into the fields. For night owls, a wide variety of pre-cut trees are available for purchase. The entire area and walkways are also lit for the season.
Erway’s also sells a variety of tree stands, wreaths, kissing balls, garland, swags, hangers and tree bags. Trees to be planted in the yard are also available for purchase.
Erway’s Christmas Tree Adventure first began by planting trees in 1985. They began selling trees to the public in 1998, growing into the adventure it is today.
Erway’s Christmas Tree Adventure, 4202 Willow Road, Wilson is open daily Friday, Nov. 23 through Dec. 24. During the week the farm is open from noon to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends.
To experience the other activities at the farm without a tree purchase, the price is $3 per person.
