Jim's Pool Supply offers a way to stay cool this summer

As the summer heat continues, Jim’s Pool and Pet Supply is offering the area a way to stay cool.

Owners P.J. and Joan Brayley took over the store, located at 6640 Lincoln Ave., in 1995. The couple saw a need in the Lockport area for a specialty pool supply store.

Jim’s Pool and Pet Supply offers a wide variety of accessories, pool toys and cleaning and maintenance supplies. They also install above ground pools.

Through their service department, Jim’s Pool and Pet Supply offer services to their customers, including the opening and closing of their inground and above ground pool each year, repair work, cleanings, installs and weekly maintenance.

P.J. said they are also the only store in Western New York to have BioGuard experts. There are seven employees who are certified water experts. He said each year they do a lot of training to be experts on the products they sell and to best serve their customers.

Jim’s Pool and Pet Supply is a family run business. P.J. and Joan’s daughter Andrea Brayley also works at the store as the retail manager. She has her college degree in zoology and has experience working and caring for animals. This prompted an expansion in 2008 to offer pet supplies.

Joan said because the pool business is seasonal, this allows them to stay open year round. Also, because most of their customers are homeowners, with yards, many also have pets.

The store features cat and dog supplies, including food, treats, toys, leashes, beds and other pet basics.



“We try to make improvements every year,” said Andrea. “Whether it is expanding our horizons, expanding our products or expanding the store. We try to improve something every year.”

The Brayley family, originally from the Middleport area, has lived in Lockport for the last 26 years. Andrea said she enjoys the small town feel the area brings.

“We like that it’s a relatively small community,” said Joan. “That allows us to give our customers individual attention and utilize our expertise in solving their problems and making their pools more economical.”

Home pool service and maintenance at Jim’s Pool and Pet Supply is open to people living in all of Niagara County, the eastern part of Orleans County and those living in the Amherst, Clarence area in Erie County.

“We keep records on all the pools so we can best treat them most economically,” said Joan. “It’s for the customers benefit, so they’re not buying something incompatible with their pools or the wrong size.”

Jim’s Pool and Pet Supply currently employs 16 full-time and part-time people.

They are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
