Get fit at a sophisticated gym without breaking the bank

Televisions, a stone wall and waterfall make members feel as if they're working out in their own home and not at a gym.
Bob Gosch used his 40 years of experience in the fitness field to build a one of a kind fitness center that focuses on service, not sales. Discover Fitness Redefined, owned by Gosch and his wife Janet, opened in Clarence five years ago and has evolved into a sophisticated fitness center, educating its members everyday.Gosch, PGA golf professional, originally opened his center as Discover Golf Performance Center with two golf simulators and an indoor putting green. The focus was to help golfers develop their skills. Over time, he decided to evolve in the direction of fitness, expanding the building, adding more fitness equipment and having only one golf simulator, which is still more than most gyms. He then changed the name to Discover Fitness Redefined.
Now, he runs what his staff considers a “home gym away from home.” This clean, sophisticated and comfortable fitness center is much different than your everyday gym.
“I was tired of the typical white walls, red and white equipment, the loud music, harsh lighting and the attitudes that a lot of gyms have,” said Gosch. “We don’t want to look like a typical gym.”
This is why members at Discover Fitness walk in to a building with hardwood floors, stone walls, a waterfall and dim, calming lighting. Gosch said that he wants his members to feel as if he’s inviting them into his own home.
Gosch also added that he’s been told that many people believe his gym is exclusive and expensive, which is far from true. Members pay only $25 a month and in return, receive tremendous value with professional services.
“A lot of gyms are centered around sales, not service. They process contracts and we actually put service ahead of everything. I don’t even have sales people working for us because we feel that we sell ourselves,” said Gosch.
On the wall at Discover Fitness Redefined, members will see a board that displays the gym’s “seven pillars of success,” as Gosch and his staff refer to them. The top of the board reads, “We are a world-class facility where our members partner with professionals to embrace a healthy lifestyle and discover fitness.”
“We live by those words. Those words aren’t just up there for fun,” said Gosch.
The first pillar is expertise. This is in reference to the staff at Discover Fitness, all of which have a great deal of experience. Next is inspiration, explaining that Gosch and his trainers work to inspire the members to live healthy lifestyles. Third is empowering through education on what to do and how to use the equipment. Innovation is for the constant search for new exercise and class formats. Fifth is service. The service at Discover Fitness is a priority and is often one on one. Cleanliness is next. Gosch focuses on not only having a functional facility but a clean one as well. Finally, there is friendliness. When members walk in the gym, Gosch will know their name. There are no membership cards or numbers given out.
Many gyms have large locker rooms for all members to share. At this fitness center, there are four separate, private bathrooms that members can comfortably shower in and get ready for their day after a workout without being surrounded by other people.
Classes and private training sessions are also available at Discover Fitness. For more information, call 406-2031 or stop by its location at 8500 Roll Road, Clarence. Information can also be found on its website at www.discovergolfbuffalo.com.
