Lockport stores help people find the perfect antique
In Niagara County, one man has opened up three stores, each displaying a wide variety of keepsakes from the past, helping the area in their search for that perfect antique.
Rocky Honkomp is a third generation antique dealer. His grandfather first opened a shop in Cincinnati and now he is carrying on the tradition.
Honkomp grew up in Oxford, N.Y. and then attended the University at Buffalo, where he met his wife and decided to stay in the Western New York area. After the October storm they moved to Lockport. That was when he decided to buy Just Lookin’, located at 38 Main St.
Later that year he decided to open Antiques of Lockport, located just down the street at 4 Main St. Since the opening in 2008, the store has expanded twice, once in 2009 and again in 2012.
Also in 2009, a second Just Lookin’ opened in the Olcott area, 5955 Ontario St.
Between the three shops, Honkomp has 60 vendors that help provide antiques. Honkomp also goes to various auctions, estate sales and garage sales looking for the perfect item. They carry a wide variety of items including furniture, toys, dishes, house wares, decorations and lots of miscellaneous.
“Everyday is different,” he said. “You never know what will come through the door.”
Honkomp said they do some consignment at the three locations and customers can bring in their antiques from him to take a look at.
Honkomp enjoys being located in the Lockport area. He said he likes the small town feel and believes they have some of the best attractions in the state. He sees a lot of tourists come in the shops.
All three stores are opened from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
