Heimiller Greenhouses help people decorate their yards

Owners Ron and Lisa Heimiller have been helping people find plants, flowers and lawn decorations at their garden shop for five years.
Ron said he has always had an interest in plants and flowers and has been growing different varieties for more than 30 years. He first established the business in 1981, working strictly in wholesale. Needing to expand, the business was moved from Amherst to their Newfane location in 1991.
“I love it,” said Ron. “Spring is my favorite time of year. When the stuff starts growing and blooming, it is the best time.”
Their garden shop first began as a small self-service roadside stand, where people could pull up and buy mums. This led Lisa to want to open up the store.
All of the plants sold are grown and raised on their farm.
Heimiller Greenhouses now sells hanging baskets, flats of flowers, annuals, perennials, grasses, herbs and vegetable plants. They also have pots, statues, birdhouses, birdbaths, gardening accessories and gift items. In the fall pumpkins and mums are also available.
The business is open from May 1 to Oct. 31. It also opens around Christmas, selling poinsettias and Christmas trees.
Ron said each year they see many returning customers. He said many can’t wait for them to open each year.
Heimiller’s is family owned and operated. Ron said that his children work and help out around the business.
This weekend, Heimiller’s will hold their second-annual customer appreciation day, where they will offer several specials on their flowers, including their 10-inch hanging baskets, two for $22.
Heimiller Greenhouses is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. They are located at 3038 Ewings Road in Newfane.
