Call Decorating Den for your next room makeover

Decorating Den is a nationwide interior decorating franchise that will turn any room from bland to beautiful. Clarence franchise owner Patty Hughes has been in the business for 20 years and is fulfilling her dream of decorating homes.

“It was always a passion of mine. Decorating is just something that I’m really passionate about,” she said.

Hughes always loved decorating her own home soon realized that a room could only be changed so many times. She decided to buy the franchise and took the courses she needed to take in order to start her business.

Now she has hundreds of clients throughout the area. Most of her customers are referrals and many of them call her back to design another room for them.

“Every client is different and they have different things that they want the room done around and that’s what the challenging thing is. The rewarding part is being able to make it work,” said Hughes.

She also said that a way of being able to make it work is by keeping up with the latest trends. Decorating Den hosts conventions and conferences each year to keep the designers up to date on the latest interior design trends. This helps meet all client expectations and preferences.

Hughes works from her home office and does not have a storefront. This is because the majority of her work is done at the client’s home or business that they’re having redecorated.

“The whole concept is bringing everything into the clients house so you can see it in your house, in your lighting and you can work with what you have and what you need,” said Hughes.

Her concept is to get as many ideas as she can from the client on what they want. She will never push her opinion or her ideas on her customers. After a while of talking and getting to know her clients, she’ll manage to pull some ideas from them and put together, what she believes, what they may have in mind.

“Some people don’t know what they want and some people know exactly what they want,” she said. “It’s my job to put it together.”

Hughes said that her most unusual job was when a client asked to decorate a room around a giraffe. Although requests such as this don’t happen often, she said that she never knows what the client is going to ask of her, which is something she actually enjoys.

“Everyday is different. It’s kind of the fun of it,” she said.

Hughes can decorate anything from a single window to an entire home. For the past couple of years, she has been decorating entire homes by herself for the Horizons Home Show.
