Join a gym that focuses on you, not sales
“We are a locally owned and family run business, we are not franchises. There are no sales people and no contracts. It was set up to just be a very efficient place to work out at,” said Joe Hanula, operator at Fitness 19’s Pain Avenue location.
Hanula said they keep out the “frills.” There are no pools, showers, or classes - just good, efficient equipment in a clean environment. Without sales people on commission it keeps the working environment relaxed. They spend their time focusing on people accomplishing their goals instead of meeting sales goals.
“Typically, people get hammered with phone calls from referrals and if they don’t join they get called like two times a day and we don’t do those practices,” said Hanula.
He said the typical issues people have when joining a gym are time constriction and finances. So with Fitness 19 being around the corner in so many communities and affordable they overcome those issues for people.
They encourage families and friends to come together, because when people work out in a group they hold each other more accountable, so they tend to have more success. If you don’t have a group it’s not a problem, because they also specialize in one-on-one personal training.
“When the trainer sits down with someone it’s a full medical evaluation and a full physical assessment and they really break down what’s going on,” said Hanula. “They find out how many days they plan on coming, what their nutrition is like, and all the variables that are going to affect them and then they break it all down into simple terms to lead them down the path to success.”
They also work with businesses to set up corporate rates and will often promote other businesses through their own. In a time when social media has taken over the advertising world, he said he would much rather be old fashioned and go door to door.
“I would rather go reach out personally to local businesses and try to grow through each other and North Tonawanda is a unique town where it still works that way,” said Hanula.
If you are looking to join a gym in the near future you may want to skip the Black Friday shopping deals and head to Fitness 19.
For Black Friday from Midnight until 5 a.m. there will be a special for zero down and $5 a month with no contract. There is also a paid in full membership for $199 and this is buy one get one free so you can keep the second year or give it to a family member or friend.
He said they have never done anything like this in the past, so it is a great opportunity for people looking to join a gym right now.
