    JOURNAL EDITORIAL

In this week’s issue of the Journal

There is plenty to read in our newspaper this week. The front page story on Springville-Griffith Institute and the reaction to the possible dismissal of Middle School Principal John Baronich and the already dismissed athletic director Bill Dickinson should prove something to the board of education. Why is it that it has been so many years since S-GI has tenured anyone in an administrative position? There must have been some deserving people throughout the years, yet over and over again S-GI let them go. It’s about time “we the people” stand up for what we believe and hold the school representatives accountable for their decisions. As for the board of education; please don’t play follow the leader. Instead, ask yourselves why so many people are in favor of keeping Baronich and Dickinson and against superintendent Vicki Wright’s decision to let them go. If there is something we don’t know, let us hear it, otherwise, do the right thing, which may not necessarily be the “Wright” thing. At this rate, there is going to come a time when educators wise up and just don’t apply for what seems to be temporary administrative employment at S-GI.
It still boggles one’s mind as to why the high school principal, Vince Vanderlip, can be alledgedly accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol, hitting someone and leaving the scene but still has his job, yet chewing tobacco on school grounds is cause for dismissal for the athletic director (the original reason given for his dismissal). Was there a coin flip and Vanderlip won? Maybe someone should hand Wright a two headed coin.
On to other things... Don’t forget to vote on November 3 for town board and other candidates. We have several bios on Pages 12, 13 and 17. Although most races are unopposed, the Concord Highway Superintendent race has two candidates running for that position, Dennis Dains and Ed Perkins. Be sure to check out their bios on Pages 12 and 13.
