"The General" to perform at the Springville Center for the Arts
Springville Center for the Arts presents a screening of the classic silent film “The General” with a live score performed by the Alloy Orchestra on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.
Roger Ebert called the Alloy Orchestra “The best in the world at accompanying silent film.” The three-man musical ensemble from Cambridge, Massachusetts frequently uses electronic synthesizers alongside such objects as musical saws and toilet seats – part of its “rack of junk” – to create its renowned silent film scores. The orchestra has performed at numerous prestigious film festivals and cultural centers, including the Telluride Film Festival, the Louvre, Lincoln Center, the Academy of Motion Pictures, the National Gallery of Art and others.
Consistently ranked in the American Film Institute greatest films, “The General” was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”
Johnny Gray (Buster Keaton) has two loves in his life: his locomotive and his girl. In this nonstop comedic romp he must win back both. The film and performance is perfect for all ages.
Springville Center for the Arts is located at 37 North Buffalo Street in Springville. General seating tickets are available in advance for $10. Doors open at 7 p.m. Gallery hours are Wednesday 12-6 p.m., Thursday 12-8 p.m., Friday 12-6 p.m., Saturday 10-3 p.m. during events and by appointment. For more information and tickets call 592-9038.
