Once again, this summer, the Frontier Central Alumni Association sponsored a successful Scholarship Golf Outing. All 128 plus golfers enjoyed an eventful day of golf, a delicious lunch and dinner, great accommodations, prizes and unattached camaraderie at the scenic and challenging Brierwood Country Club on Aug. 13.
The factors contributing to the success of a benefit of this magnitude were many, but in the large part, were due to the incredible support of major sponsors Ė Chiacchia and Fleming, LLP Attorneys at Law, West Herr Automotive Group, Young & Wright Architectural LLC, Matthews Buses, Inc., as well as 50 plus tee sponsors and 100 plus gift donors. The Association cannot thank them enough for their interest and collaboration in helping scholarship and grant receipts.
This outingís success ensures the Alumni Association another opportunity to award $1,000 scholarships for the 2012-13 school year. Hopefully, this financial assistance will aid the recipients in relieving the prohibitive costs of college expenses. Scholarship winners for 2011-12 were Dominic Aroneseno, Frances Guzzo, Laura Hintermeier, Courtney Karek, Reilly Smith and Allexander Pellicano. These students are children of Frontier Central Alumni members; or, graduating seniors of Frontier.
Also, nine grants were awarded last school year for causes supporting student achievement. Recipients were: The Frontier High School PTSA for a 9/11 tribute for $500, Laura Glista (Pinehurst, $300), Sarah Grzeskowiak (Pinehurst, $300), Elaine Turner (Pinehurst, $300), Linda Sentz (Pinehurst, $300), Juliet Szczerbacki (Cloverbank, $300), Patricia Kunselman (Cloverbank, $300), Elizabeth Kick (Big Tree, $300) and Peggy Lipka (PCBA, $300).
The Frontier Alumni Association invites any Frontier Alumni (former student, parent of current/former student or employee) wishing to become involved in achieving its goals to join us at our meetings on the second Monday of November, January, March and May. Times, dates and locations of meetings will be published in the Frontier District Newsletter and/or on the district website, www.frontier.wnyric.org (check Community for alumni information). For more information concerning the Alumni Association, call Susan Infante at 648-5743.
Father Burns will be missed at OMGC
Editor, The Sun
Iím sure I speak on behalf of the parishioners at Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish. We would like to say a fond farewell to Father Lawrence Burns, our former pastor, on his retirement, as well as 50 years of service to the Lord.
Father Larry was our shepherd for 20 years, longer than any other pastor. He was always there for the parishioners.
At our Confirmation and First Communion ceremonies, he always made them special, especially for the little children. He was available for my family on two occasions when we experienced the sudden loss of family members. Iím sure he did likewise for others.
We wish Father Larry the best of luck on his retirement. He will be missed. Twenty years is a long time to be with the parish family, but time moves on.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new pastor, Father Robert Orlowski.
