SPRINGVILLE — The Springville-Griffith Institute High School music department will present its annual fall concert on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. The performance will feature the high school concert band, chorus and orchestra. The concert will be held in the high school’s Lyle G. Palmer Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

The concert band will take the stage, under the direction of Joseph Gervase. Their segment will begin with the “Block M March,” composed by Jerry Bilik. Next will be “Hebrides Suite,” a multi-movement work by band composer Clare Grundman. The band will close its portion of the program with ‘Into the Clouds,” a contemporary piece by Richard Saucedo.

The concert will continue with the chorus, under the direction of Julie Noeson, beginning with an arrangement of “Buffalo Gals,” a traditional folk song.

Next will be Jeffrey Ames’ arrangement of the spiritual “I’ve Been in the Storm So Long,” followed by a medley of songs from the Broadway musical “Next To Normal.” The chorus will conclude with Bill Whithers’ 1970s song “Lean On Me.”

The concert will conclude with the orchestra, under the direction of Scott Roudebush. The string section will begin with “Prelude and Dance,” from British composer Gustav Holst’s “Brook Green Suite.”

The full orchestra will perform Jack Bullock’s “Encounters,” followed by Ralph Ford’s “In the Fading Light of Autumn.” The orchestra will close with “Marche Slav,” by Russian composer Tchaikovsky.

The high school jazz band will perform before the concert, starting at 6:30 p.m.
