According to the Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce, a new event, the Zoar Valley Festival, will be held on Saturday, May 12 in Creekside Park along Cattaraugus Creek in Gowanda.
The 13th annual Crouse 5K Run will take place on Friday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. at American Legion Post No. 409 in Gowanda. To register for the race, visit www.buffalorunners.com

On Saturday, exhibitors, vendors and musical entertainment, featuring Paul Zittel and Pure Country, will set up in Creekside Park. There will also be fly fishing demonstrations, rafting and kayaking excursions on the Cattaraugus Creek from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Attendees can pre-register online at www.cattraftingadventures.com/id1.html
Early registration is also available for guided hikes into the Zoar Valley multiple use area. In addition, interested parties can also pre-register for horse and carriage rides to the gorge at www.mistyridgecarriage.com/index.html. World Kayak Throwdown on Cattaraugus Creek, demonstrating competitive kayak events will also take place. A 3 p.m. zombie walk will be held from the park to the Gowanda Fire Hall on Aldrich Street, where the Blood Money Band will play from 4 - 8 p.m.
The world premiere of the film “Empire,” featuring sports on New York state whitewaters, will be shown at the Hollywood Theatre at 6:30 p.m. and the Sean Patrick McGraw concert at the Gowanda Fire Hall will begin at 8.
