Sweet traditions offer holiday cheer at West Falls-Colden Library
A large table of various-shaped sugar cookies greeted attendees at the West Falls-Colden Library, where the event was held.
Every participant was allotted six cookies of his or her choice and a variety of different toppings. Every table was equipped with cans of spray icing, bowls of frosting and colored sugar decorations.
Retired Navy Chief Fran Wadkins spoke about the cookie-decorating tradition. “A long time ago, God looked down and said, ‘Why isn’t everyone communicating?’” she said. “Why is everyone so miserable?’ And so, the Virgin Mary created the cookie.”
Wadkins, said that she grew up appreciating the Christmas holiday, adding that she has made thousands of Christmas cookies, but continues to enjoy decorating them.
Spagnola attended the event dressed as Mrs. Claus and provided entertainment for the cookie decorators. She manipulated many balloons into holiday shapes, such as wreathes, for the children at the event.
