FULL HOUSE –– Kindergarten teacher Evelyn Gedraitis, left, and volunteer Cyndie Smith are shown surrounded by the life-size self-portraits each student helped to make.
The annual Colden Elementary School open house and art show March 29 was so well-attended that local fire police assisted with parking and traffic control.Teachers had displays and activities prepared for their students and families and student artwork was featured throughout the school.
The gym was transformed into an art gallery for the evening, with walls and tables’ holding student works. Some of their projects included Oaxacan designs that coordinated with the historical and geographical studies of Mexico, lettering exercises that utilized math skills such as one-point perspective, coordinating fact and fiction in literature with abstract and realistic drawings, and drawings of Leonardo da Vinci inventions that coordinated with the writing curriculum.
Student-created video productions that detailed their experiences and thoughts while studying various artists were shown throughout the evening. The fifth grade slideshows and a video clip of the artwork that was on display can be found at www.springvillegi.org/webpages/kjaeger.
