This year’s Boys State delegates selected by Post 431

Shane Ellis

The American Legion Post No. 431 has designated Shane Ellis and William Lawton as its representatives to attend the American Legion’s Boys State at Morrisville State College from June 24 - 29.

Boys State is an educational program for high school juniors that focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials.

The program’s stated goal is to mirror the structure and operation of its state government, providing training in citizenship, leadership and character development.

Will Lawton

Boys State consists of classroom instruction, functional activities and general assemblies. Participants are assigned to a mythical political party, which results in involvement at the precinct, city, county, judicial circuit, senatorial or legislative district levels, as well as the state level.

Boys State allows the participants to form and operate their own government.

Ellis is the son of William and Marie Ellis of East Concord and Lawton is the son of Eric and Denise Lawton of Springville.
