WEST VALLEY — The West Valley Central School hosted several members of the West Valley Volunteer Hose Company on Friday, Oct. 12.

Assistant Chief Steve Wedvik and Department of Environmental Conservation Officer and firefighter Robert Rogers met with students, to discuss fire safety and prevention.Students from prekindergarten – fourth grade reviewed their fire safety knowledge and discussed exit drills for the home; stop, drop, cover and roll and preventing forest fires.
Smokey the Bear was also on the scene to meet students.
HANDS-ON — West Valley students try out a fire obstacle course.
At the department’s Route 240 station, more than 60 parents, grandparents and kids checked out the apparatuses, practiced on the fire fighters’ obstacle training maze and partook of refreshments.
STOP, DROP AND ROLL — Emergency Medical Technician Melinda Mellon reviews safety with her class.
The fire department also provided guests with batteries, to encourage safety first.More stories
