Springville-GI scientists show what they are made of

The Springville-Griffith Institute High School Science Olympiad Team placed 10th out of 32 schools at the regional competition at Canisius College on Feb. 4.The competition involved many areas of science, math and technology in 22 events. The team built a robot arm, a 3D protein model and a gravity car. Team members also competed in hands-on tests.
The team received medals in five events. Topher McCauley and Dan Gil placed fourth in the anatomy and physiology event. Dan Rothman and Jenny Kramer placed second in the forensics event. Corrine Schunke and Alicia Tartick placed fourth in the forestry event and Dan Gil and Alicia Tartick placed sixth in the protein modeling event. Matt Wagner and Caitlin Riley placed fifth in the remote sensing event.
The team’s coaches were Eunice Reinhold, Michelle Wagner, Dorothy Cott, Matt Clayton and Robert Atkinson.
