READ TO ME –– Rylie Turner, a fifth grader at Colden Elementary, is pictured with Teva and Dr. Jan Freeman.
Dr. Jan Freeman and her dog, Teva, have volunteered their time to visit and read with students at Colden Elementary School. This is the second year of the Reading Education Assistance Dogs program at Colden. Those are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owners/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children.
The stated goal of the program is to foster enjoyment of reading, increased fluency and confidence in reading aloud.
Teva visited the classrooms of the student readers so all the students could meet her. Colden Elementary thanked Freeman and Teva, as well as staff members Jaime Myers, Edward O’Leary and Sharon Burganowski for coordinating the program.
