Zombie book writer speaks at S-GI High School

Springville-Griffith Institute High School hosted Western New York young adult author Lia Habel, who gave a presentation on March 19 for several English classes in the library media center.

Habel has published a book, “Dearly, Departed: A Zombie Novel.” Its sequel, “Dearly, Beloved: A Zombie Novel,” is scheduled to be released in September. Her website described the first book as “a cyber-Victorian/steampunk romance – with zombies.” More information about the author and her books can be found at www.liahabel.com.

In preparation for the author’s visit, many students and teachers read “Dearly, Departed” available at the Springville High School library. Additional copies were loaned from other libraries in the Erie 2 BOCES school library system. Any student or teacher who read “Dearly, Departed” and submitted a brief review had a chance to enter a drawing to have lunch with the author.

Habel provided insight on the process of writing, creating characters and getting published.
