The Springville-GI kids have talent!

Springville-Griffith Institute Middle School held its annual S-GI Talent Show on April 5.

Former show winners, “The Line Starts Here,” a band comprised of high school students Matt McCaslin (vocals), Jeremiah Anderson (guitar), Angelo Hurley (bass) and Nick Benstead (drums), opened the show.

The judges, Colleen Gallivan, Brandon Wojcik and Steven Reese, chose “The Broken Locks” as the first place winners. The band, consisting of eighth graders Hayden Goodridge on guitar and Marty Benzinger on drums, played a selection by The Black Keys.

Runners-up were eighth grader Emilie Loudenslager’s singing “Someone Like You” by Adele and sixth grader Sahara Brueckman’s dancing to “Music in Me” by Kiki Dee.

Contestants included eighth grader Miranda Digati’s playing guitar and singing “Blackbird” by the Beatles, eighth grader Veronica Baranowski’s singing the Japanese song “Matryoshka,” eighth grader Gavin Hurley’s playing guitar and singing “Swing Life Away” by Rise Against, eighth graders Emily Lutz and Katherine Murray’s singing “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes, sixth graders Morgan DePue and Lauren Pukay’s Irish dancing, sixth grader Katelynn Steinmetz’s singing “But I Do Love You” by Leeann Rimes and seventh grader Erin Jurkowski’s performing “Alto’s Lament.”
