Mt. Mercy Academy 5K race a successful event

SOUTH BUFFALO - Mount Mercy Academy was proud to welcome hundreds of runners and supporters to the MMA 5K Race, recently. The weather was perfect as the race route took runners through Cazenovia Park and part of South Buffalo.

More than 400 runners took part in the MMA5K - the largest number of registered racers since the Race began four years ago.

Mount Mercy's 5K Race Committee honored Michael Diggins, faithful MMA5K runner, dedicated community member, and a tremendous friend of Mount Mercy Academy by presenting a framed race shirt to the Diggins family.

All the runners' race shirts also had Diggins' initials printed on the sleeve. Michael Diggin passed away only weeks before the race.

After the Race, more than 600 people gathered in the Mercy Grotto on Choate Avenue for the after party. The 2012 MMA5K Race honorees were the "Race Day Ladies": Peggy Flanagan Barrett '73, Sandy Scarcello Breen '77, Paula Scarcello Fitzgerald '71, Patty Jackson Doctor, Mary Sheehan Moore '69 and Peggy Sheehan Wade.
