SPRINGVILLE — Pit Stop Pizza in the village of Springville was seized, due to an outstanding sales tax debt, on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Enforcement agents from the New York State Department of Taxation arrived, accompanied by police personnel, to gain control of the premises.
The amount listed on the business’s public warrant was $13,400. “There may be other warrants or other debt that is not included in that,” Geoff Gloak, of the NYS Department of Taxation Press Office, said.
According to Gloak, “[Pit Stop] has had some other tax issues before ... but nothing as significant as this. Once the business is seized, it’s in the taxpayer’s best interest to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation. Otherwise, we have the right to auction the business property and apply the proceeds ... to his tax debt.”
The keys to the Springville business were returned to the owner and Pit Stop reopened on Friday, Aug. 3. Phone calls from the Springville Journal to the business owner had not been returned, as of press time.
