Coalition to hold 'Outdoor Family Movie Nights'

Nationwide is on your side when it comes to supporting substance-free fun in Lancaster/Depew.

The Getzoni Agency - Nationwide Insurance has generously donated $2,000 to the Lancaster-Depew Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition to sponsor its second annual Outdoor Family Movie Nights.

The donation will allow the coalition to host two family-friendly movie events this summer. During the first, The Getzoni Agency - Nationwide Insurance and the coalition also will team up with the Lancaster Town Band to offer families a free concert and show Tuesday, July 31, at the Richard E. Pascucci Band Shell adjacent to the Lancaster Youth Bureau, 200 Oxford Ave. The Town Band’s performance will feature the theme “Olympic Celebration” and will begin at 7:30 p.m. At dusk, the movie “Tangled” will be shown from a screen in the band shell.

Residents are invited to bring their blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the event. Popcorn, drinks, giveaways and information will be available, and the Getzoni Agency also will hold a drawing for a 32-inch flat-screen television, among other prizes and displays.

In the case of inclement weather, the band’s show will relocate to Lancaster High School that night, while the movie will be rescheduled to Aug. 7.

The second outdoor movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the band shell and will feature the movie “Despicable Me,” along with giveaways, information and refreshments. The rain date will be Wednesday, Aug. 29.

“We are excited to be partnering with The Getzoni Agency - Nationwide Insurance on these events, which offer families a chance to spend time together and learn more about preventing youth substance abuse,” said Lisa Johnson, coordinator of the coalition. “We thank Grant Getzoni and his agency for enthusiastically supporting these efforts.”

The mission of the coalition is to prevent youth substance by addressing factors that increase the risk of abuse, highlighting positive opportunities for youth and promoting community collaboration. The coalition is mentored by Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. Parents, students and other community members are encouraged to join.
