Erie Community College helps families for the holidays

BUFFALO - The holiday season is a time for communities to gather, celebrate and cherish their collective fortune. For Erie Community College’s community, it’s time to lift up those within its own hallways who are pursuing fortune, one class at a time.

Recently, ECC administration, faculty and students joined with the college’s board board of trustees to package offerings collected through their annual President’s Holiday Food Drive inside the ECC’s City Campus first floor student foyer. The three-campus, student-led collection of non-perishable food items and gift cards, which had begun Dec. 7, will aid the ECC community’s neediest members, comprised of working students and families who need an extra hand this holiday season.

“This is the time of year to give, to help one another,” said ECC Board of Trustees Chairwoman Patricia Mertz. “This is what we do here and this offering today is a perfect example of not only the spirit of the season, but the spirit of ECC.”

Enough food and items were collected to fill about 50 bags, which were distributed to needy students and families through ECC’s Student Services Office.
