SOUTH BUFFALO - It was a complete surprise and shock for Mt. Mercy Academy’s Joyce Fruth when she was announced the winner of the Techie Award – Small/Medium Company at the 2012 infoTech Niagara Beta Awards.
“I just could not believe it,” said Fruth. “I was amazed. As I was waking up the podium (to receive my award) I was flooded with emotion.”
This award goes to the IT professional responsible for making the technology run smoothly at an organization on a daily basis.
These are the folks that are behind the scenes but, without them, none of us would be able to function at work.
The professional may be an employee or consultant to the organization for which his work his nominated.
Fruth, who is responsible for daily IT operations and managing the help desk at Mt. Mercy Academy, said she was up against five others for the award.
“There was five of us that were nominated for this award,” said Fruth, a Cheektowaga native. “Margaret (Staszak) nominated me for the category.”
It was not only a great honor for Fruth to win the award, but also for Mt. Mercy Academy.
The award also brings attention to the school.
“It was an honor for myself and actually Mt. Mercy Academy,” stated Fruth, “because, this bring education to infoTech Niagara. So, now, we can collaborate on hundreds and hundreds of technology companies.”
The extra exposure from the award will also help Fruth and the academy build strong ties in the business world.
“We can now collaborate with the business community where we might have been able to do so readily before,” explained Fruth. “So, now, this will be an excellent opportunity for education. I am very excited to be bringing this on board.”
The 2012 infoTech Niagara Beta Awards were held Saturday, April 3 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.
