They are there for every birthday, every laugh and every tear. They are silent constant companions when nothing is certain but a cancer diagnosis. Dogs are the unnoticed caregivers who give a special kind of support for cancer patients.
The American Cancer Society’s Bark For Life of Western NY is a walk for dogs and their owners to fight back against cancer at Day Road Park in Lockport on Sunday, Aug. 5. Bark For Life is a way to pay tribute to our favorite canines and raise funds and awareness to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
Bark For Life is a one-mile noncompetitive walk on a preplanned route, registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Dogs and their owners can enjoy games, demonstrations and contests throughout the event.
“Bark For Life is a great opportunity to involve those four legged family members in the fight against cancer,” said Candy Mye, event Co-Chair of Bark For Life of Western NY. “It gives us the chance to honor survivors, remember those lost and those who are still fighting, whether they are friends, family, or pets.”
Bring your favorite pooch and join the American Cancer Society for a day of tail wagging, dog treats and tricks as we help people get well, stay well, fight back and find cures. Lawn chairs and blankets are strongly encouraged.
