KENMORE - Mount St. Mary Academy will host a fall concert and Italian Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 27. Featured performers include The Buffalo Silver Band, The Eric County Wind Ensemble and the school’s Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band and Dance Team in a concert beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Buffalo Silver Band maintains the British-style tradition in its instrumentation and music. Except for percussion, the band is composed entirely of brass instruments.
The British-style band differs from an American brass band mainly in that it uses cornets and Eb alto horns rather than trumpets and French horns.
The resulting sound is a bit warmer and darker than the brighter American sound. Comprised of 25 to 30 brass players (and three percussionists), the band’s repertoire includes traditional marches, popular songs, jazz, light classical music and more serious works expressly for the brass band genre.
The Erie County Wind Ensemble features the best musicians in Western New York featured in light concert band selections.
Mount St. Mary Academy’s award-winning instrumental groups will feature show tunes and light music for the season. The Dance Team will be featured in up tempo selections for their first indoor performance of the year.
The Italian dinner will be held in the school cafeteria starting at 5:00 p.m. Preshow concert in our Auditorium starts at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
Dinner features an all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatball meal, including salad, bread and butter, coffee, tea and lemonade. Homemade desserts will be available for purchase.
Tickets for this event are available in advance for $10.00 by calling the school at 877-1358 or Band Director John Hathaway at 689-1100. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $13.
All proceeds from this concert will benefit the purchase of new musical instruments.
This event is co-sponsored by Northtown Lexus, River Grill Restaurant, Banchetti Restaurant, Perry Ice Cream, Maple Entertainment Complex and and Aye Coach Lines.
Mount St. Mary Academy is located at 3756 Delaware Avenue, Kenmore, New York 14217.
