Once again, Lewiston Council on the Arts joins the festivities
at the annual Olde Sanborn Days Arts and Crafts Show on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 15.
The council is proud to partner with the Rotary Club of Niagara County Central to present a weekend residency for X-TREME Art sculptor, Brian Ruth.
Ruth is a "Master of the Chainsaw" and has won critical acclaim for his beautiful carving style in numerous competitions.
Starting with a three-foot tall log, while the chainsaw roars and sawdust flies, Ruth brings his sculptures to life. He is a master carver and will complete his masterpieces to the delight of onlookers during the two days of the festivities, which are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Niagara County-Central.
The family oriented event is free to the public at the Sanborn Fire Hall grounds on Route 429 near the intersection of Route 31.
Ruth first ran a chainsaw while cutting firewood with his father and grandfather. In high school he got a job with a tree service and did tree work all through college.
He saw a man carving with a chainsaw and thought it looked like way too much fun. The next day, March 1979, he completed his first chainsaw carving.
"The three earliest loves of my life were joined in one ... art, woodworking and chainsaws,” said Ruth. “The rest as they say, is history.”
