“Well we have too many of our friends and family that have gone through breast cancer and we thought why not give it a shot,” said Larry Lelonek, Knights of Columbus.
Members of the Father Justin Knights of Columbus, 2735 Union Rd., Cheektowaga donated $1,513 to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, Tuesday, Nov. 27 during a bingo intermission. The organization donated $1 from each bingo sale during the third week in October and also sold wristbands and buttons.
Christopher Musial, Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s special events coordinator said any donation, big or small, is extremely important for the institute.
“It’s awesome. We are just so proud to have them as a partner because the money that they raised is going to stay local,” said Musial. “Every little bit helps.”
The money donated will go towards breast cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park. Members of Knights of Columbus wore pink shirts in support during bingo sessions and sold as many bingo admissions and buttons as they could.
“I’m so glad that the money is going to research,” said Breast cancer survivor, Marcia Szczygielski. “It’s wonderful that people care.”
This was the organization’s first year running the benefit but since it was so successful, Lelonek hopes to have one every year. For more information on donating to Roswell Park Cancer Institute visit www.roswellpark.org
