Mavissakalian receives Jamieson Award at NCCC

Cherie A. Mavissakalian, nursing program coordinator at Niagara County Community College received the Dr. Carol Jamieson Award at a ceremony held on the NCCC Sanborn campus on Dec. 6.

The Niagara County Community College Advisory Board of the V. James Renda Faculty Resource Center for Academic Excellence selected Mavissakalian as the seventh recipient of the Jamieson Award.

The committee reviews all materials and makes the final decision based on the criteria below including letters from past and/or current students.

The award recognizes a faculty member who best exemplifies the outstanding traits Carol possessed: mentoring and support given to all faculty, continuous professional growth, the ability to inspire students, service to NCCC and commitment to academic excellence.

Mavissakalian was nominated and selected based on her passion for teaching, engaging students in the learning process, enthusiastically motivating students to participate and advocating for student leadership.

Criteria for the Award is mentoring and support given to other faculty; continuous growth in the field of study; ability to inspire in students independent and original thinking; enthusiasm and vitality in learning and teaching; dedication to the support of academic excellence; and dedication to the college.
