Celebrate Oktoberfest in Olcott

Niagara County History Center is set to celebrate the region’s German heritage with its second annual Oktoberfest, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Olcott Fire Hall, 1619 Lockport-Olcott Road.

No celebration of Bavarian culture would be complete without a delicious German smorgasbord and Oktoberfest is no exception and will feature a vast array of traditional German dishes, once again catered by Joanne Stanton.

Stanton is a seasoned pro at putting together an authentic Bavarian meal. The delicious dinner will include sauerbraten, bratwurst, roast pork, sauerkraut, sweet and sour cabbage, German potato salad, chef salad, applesauce, rolls, coffee and dessert. A cash bar will be provided.

Another requirement for Oktoberfest is a traditional German Band, and the History Center is pleased to welcome the award-winning favorites, The Frankfurters, who are acknowledged to be the “Best of the Wurst.” Drawing from centuries-old Bavarian and Swiss folk traditions, the Frankfurters’ colorful show features thrilling demonstrations on hand-carved wooden Swiss Alphorns, the haunting Singing-Saw, and Alpine bell ringing, along with yodeling and lots of good, old-fashioned German fun.

The History Center is also preparing a basket raffle for their guests to enjoy at Oktoberfest.

Volunteer Kathy Wood is a “pro” at lining up prizes, so she urges attendees to plan to go home with a “carload” of neat gifts.

In addition to a great assortment of basket raffles and silent auction items, the History Center will also be picking the winner for their Amish Quilt Raffle at Oktoberfest.

Tickets for Oktoberfest are $25 and are selling fast.

For reservations or more information contact the History Center at 434-7433.
