Concord Country Christmas kicks off holiday season

CONCORD — Now in its third year, the Concord Country Christmas will once again usher in the Christmas season.

The event will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Concord Mercantile, located at 17 Franklin St in Springville.

The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a cookie sale, which will last until noon. Santa Claus will arrive to hear kids’ Christmas wishes, at 1 p.m. He will stay on site until 3.

The Christmas celebration will also feature local musicians, including the Middle Road Misfits, who will entertain the crowd from 2 – 3:15 p.m. Taking over at 3:30 will be the Thursday Night Mercantile Musicians, who will hold down the fort, until 4:45 p.m.

Concord Town Historian David Batterson said that four of Santa’s reindeer

will also attend the event. “They’ll arrive shortly before Santa Claus,” he added. “It’s exciting to have the animals, because it really lends to that Christmas feeling.”

Items made by local artisans will be offered for sale, during the Concord Country Christmas. Batterson noted the quality of these items, which he said have “improved significantly. They outdid themselves this year,” he added.

A raffle for an Amish quilt will also be held, in addition to several other family activities.

Call the Concord Mercantile at 592-5546.
