LANCASTER- The Citizens Hose Company of the Lancaster Fire Department has announced preparation for what will probably be its last clam chowder sale and Chinese auction Sat. Oct. 13 starting at noon.
The members of the company said that due to the rising cost of ingredients and the inability to raise prices much more than they are already, it is no longer feasible to use this sale as a profitable fund-raiser.
Fire Company President Gregg Smith acknowledged this fact and was saddened to have to make this announcement.
“We have been doing this fund-raiser for the better part of 25 years and without the Snyder family this endeavor would not have been possible,” said Smith. “Bob and Lois Snyder are the king and queen of clam chowder in the area with their family recipe and people come from miles around, even Canada, just for the ‘Snyder clam chowder,’ but as things inevitably change it is time to go forward with other ventures.”
The members of the company hope to see all its supporters and lovers of famous Snyder clam chowder on Oct. 13, and are encouraging people to stop by and see Bob and Lois for the last time behind the clam chowder kettles.
