Village of Farnham closer to landing a Dollar General

The village now has a signed contract for the sale of the corner property located on the corner of Commercial Street and Route 249. The purchase agreement is now signed by Farnham Mayor Julie Gibbons as well as the builder, who is also the purchaser.
Village Attorney Edward J. Murphy has reviewed the contract several times and has made suggestions and changes, which were taken care of prior to its signing. All changes and suggestions were met, with the only exception being less than $1,000 in fees to the village for transfer tax, filing fees and the property tax search. If the village does incur any fees, Gibbons has been assured that they will be reimbursed.
“As far as the proposed Dollar General goes, things are moving along quite nicely on that front,” Gibbons said. “There should be nothing out there to surprise us as this process continues.”
The purchaser is looking at closing on the sale of the property May 1, with the prospect of having the store built and ready to open in 60 days.
The next requirement is the builder/purchaser has requested a property tax search, which the village attorney is currently handling.
“We will be sure to keep everyone up to date on what is going on as far as this new Dollar General,” Gibbons said.
