Security walkthrough begins at Springville School District

Williams, a security inspector of correctional facilities throughout the country, told the board, in early January, that he was willing to conduct a security audit of the district’s four school buildings, as well as its other facilities. He said that he expects to begin the bulk of his investigation next week. “I don’t pretend to be an expert or anything,” Williams said, “but I’ll do my best.”
Williams said that, from what he has already seen, the district is relatively well secured, with modern locking systems and surveillance. Still, he added that improvements can always be made.
In addition to security improvements, Williams will look for ways the district can improve safety measures, as well as insight into how staff members can improve their awareness, in this area. By offering his services for free, Williams is saving the district funding monies.
Should Williams find any errors or ways to improve security, funding for those measures will need to be placed into the school’s budget.
Williams said that he believes the federal and state government, in response to the recent shooting events, will do what they can, to provide funding, to assist small districts like Springville pay for these types of safety measures. “I’m sure we’ll find a way to fund any improvements,” he said.
Once Williams completes the walk-through, he will complete an evaluation and present his findings to the board, during an upcoming meeting.
