Patrols stop Trevor Gernatt after foot chase

COLLINS — Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard reported the arrest of a Collins resident for multiple charges after sheriff’s road patrols stopped his motorcycle in Collins on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 10:39 p.m.

While on patrol in Collins, Deputy John Hanna observed a motorcycle on Route 75 in Collins’ being operated without a headlight. The driver was not wearing a helmet.

Hanna attempted to stop the motorcycle on North Division near Brown Road, when the operator, Trevor Gernatt, 21, fled on foot into the woods. After a short foot chase, Hanna apprehended the suspect and took him into custody.

Gernatt was arrested and charged with a D felony, driving while intoxicated, for having two prior convictions for DWI within 10 years, felony aggravated unlicensed operation (revoked driver’s license for DWI convictions), resisting arrest, obstruction second and multiple traffic infractions.

Gernatt refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content. He was processed at the North Collins substation and transported to the Erie County Holding Center to await arraignment on his charges.
