YMCA has provided school age child care since 1990

When the bell rings at the end of the school day, children need a safe and nurturing place to go when their parents are still at work or away from home. Since 1990 the Lockport Family YMCA has been in the business of answering the need for quality affordable child care in Eastern Niagara County.

YMCA licensed child care programs are designed to provide each child with a variety of positive, healthy and interesting activities throughout the week while focusing on character development, emphasizing the four core YCMA values Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. The staff are trained and experienced in working with children. Many staff has or is working towards, degrees in education or in a child related field. The YMC provides staff with ongoing training throughout the year and all staff meet New Your State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requirements.

Second only to the human relationships children will develop, a well-planned curriculum helps define a child’s experience in YMCA School Age Child Care. The content and daily activities planned for the before and afterschool hours aid in making the programs fun for the children.

Combining play with academics, the Y’s school age childcare programs fill gaps in the day between many parents schedule and the school day. By offering enrichment through arts, literature, science, physical activities, sports and nutrition, youth in the Greater Lockport Family YMCA programs receive can benefit from homework and study time, play time and the opportunity to spend time and play with friends.

The Greater Lockport Family YMCA collaborates with four school districts to provide programs based in eight local elementary schools.

YMCA School Age Child Care programs are offered before and after school hours at Anna Merritt, George Southard and Roy B Kelley in Lockport District; DeSales Catholic School; Royalton Hartland at the Primary School, Thomas Marks and WH Stevenson in the Wilson District and at Fricano Primary School in the Starpoint District.
