Memorial Day service, parade to honor our nation’s heroes

LANCASTER- The Lancaster Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post # 7275 will be holding a Memorial Day service and parade, Monday, May 28. All residents are invited to attend to honor those who have died in our nation's service.

The Memorial service will start at 9 a.m. at the Lake Avenue Veteran’s Park. Following the service, the parade will assemble and proceed down Lake Avenue onto School Street, then down Pleasant Avenue to Central Avenue and end on Clark Street at the Lancaster Town Hall.

Adjutant of the VFW Post #7275 Henry Mazurek said the post has been holding this event for 50 years.

“It is a commemoration of the people that have fallen, those who had given their life for God and our country,” remarked Mazurek. “We also want to make sure we keep the younger people aware of the sacrifices that were made by these service personnel and their support systems during all the wars.”

Some individuals marching in the parade include political dignities from the town, village, county, and state, the Lancaster High School and Middle School marching bands, Girls and Boys Scouts Troops of Lancaster, volunteer firefighters, and the post’s color guard.

Mazurek said he encourages people to take the time to thank a veteran and to remember veterans just not on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, but all year round.
